MY THERAPY PRACTICE
Welcome to my psychotherapy practice. The philosophy guiding my practice is the belief that we all have the capacity to transform our wounds and self-limiting beliefs. The job of the therapist is to offer space set apart from everyday life to allow those innate resources to come alive. Psychotherapy can be like holding an ear to a shell, and listening to the wave of our soul’s calling.
When committed to the attentive care of psychotherapy, we are able to observe and understand what is often buried in our bodies, psyches, and habits. Psychotherapy is, first and foremost, a process of integration, a way of understanding our core beliefs and traumas with a frame of compassion and curiosity, carving out a place for all parts of our self—the dark and the light—in the bigger narrative of our lives.
I take a warm, relational approach to therapy. I think of the therapeutic partnership as a small, controlled sketch of our bigger, more chaotic everyday existence. Entering therapy is to enter into a relationship in which we grapple with ourselves in the presence of another human being, and it is in this joint exploration that we are able to create new pathways for connecting with others—and most importantly, ourselves. Psychotherapy is set apart from other relationships in its refusal to judge, its insistence on gentleness, and its spirit of curiosity taken towards whatever comes up in the room.
The role of the therapist is to hold the space for the client to explore their mind gently and bravely, to offer clarity and bearing-up as one looks towards their own inner resources. In my practice, I rely on a rich tradition of theorists, practitioners, and healers. I draw particularly from psychodynamic therapy, object relations theory, attachment theory, and Buddhist psychology. My practice is informed by my training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) through the IFS Institute.
